I worked both Saturday and Sunday, not to mention finishing both of next week's Kismet pages and getting studded tires put on my car, so this evening I goofed off without remorse: drank red wine, watched the pilot episode of "Stargate Atlantis" (which a friend has been taping for me, since I don't have cable) and started reading Diana Wynne Jones' latest book, "The Merlin Conspiracy".

I've been alternately looking forward to and dreading "SG:A"... as good as SG1 was, it did slide downhill in the last few seasons and the one original recurring character that they added late in the series was Jonas the human fence post. So I was a little worried at what they might come up with, when asked to create a whole original cast from scratch. So far, the Atlantis characters seem likeable enough and the writers seem to be aware that one of the main things you need in an ensemble cast (and one of the big reasons the original SG1 was as good as it was) is interpersonal conflict.

Plus I gotta like a show where one of the characters has MY last name. (Maiden name. Half of it.... Wier.)

The best parts of the episode were the parts with the original cast, though. (God but I do love O'Neill. "Well, that was a waste of a perfectly good explanation.")

Gonna go lay in bed and read more Wynne Jones now.
