Legend of the Undersnow
Apr. 22nd, 2005 10:15 pmDay 32. I am beginning to suspect the natives' stories of an element existing under the snow -- the legendary undersnow, or "ground" -- may not be the child's fancies I at first believed. On several occasions I have even glimpsed this fabled "fifth element" (the other four being snow, ice, water and mud). Should I doubt my own senses, or believe in that which Reason claims to be impossible?

The driveway is awash in slush. We almost didn't make it tonight, and we'd better get either a LOT of melting over the weekend, or a good freeze before Monday ... otherwise we may have to call in to work Stuck.
Even though it doesn't really look like it, we've actually lost a lot of snow over the last couple of weeks. Even in the woods, it's so soft and shallow that it's possible to wade through it without too much trouble -- which would have been impossible a month ago; you'd've sunk up to your waist.
