Spring forward, fall back to bed
Apr. 3rd, 2005 11:44 amI hate this time change. I thought I was getting up relatively early, for a weekend. Then I looked at the clock on my computer and went, "What the hell?" and then, "Oh."
So, last night I wrote a really long LJ post about DC's "Countdown to Infinite Crisis", picking apart the plot holes and the ending. And then I deleted it. What's the point? I'm sure that the book will be discussed ad nauseum on comics message boards. I'm sure that like anything that happens in the DC universe, lots of fans will hate it and others will love it and some won't care.
Aside from certain nitpicks (like the ENDING) I loved it. I really did. It's a blatant gimmick to sell books, but who cares? It was a fun, exciting, slightly cheesy story that focused on some of my favorite characters in the DCU. The art was good and the coloring was great -- it's nice to see computer colorists figuring out that just because you have 16 million colors doesn't mean you have to use all of them on every page. It took an interesting look at what it's like to not be one of the "celebrity" superheroes in the DC universe and how they view and are viewed by the "Big Three". We got some neat, touching scenes with one of my favorite friendships in all of comicdom. It became Elseworlds for me when one character I liked pulled the trigger on another character I liked ... actually, it was already pretty much Elseworlds because of what had happened to Sue in "Identity Crisis". I think it's too bad that it probably does take place in mainstream DC continuity, but I'm not a continuity junkie anyhow. As far as I'm concerned, there are a million other timestreams out there where the characters I love live on happily. It was a fun read, more than worth the money, and I'll probably buy at least one, probably more, of this summer's miniserieses (is that a word?) to see what happens next.
