It's been below zero lately. The chickens seem to be weathering it just fine, with 2 hundred-watt light bulbs in their coop for a little extra heat. I'm feeling more optimistic about their ability to make it through -50, since -20 doesn't seem to be hurting them. (The rooster frosted the very tips of his comb in the first cold snap back in October, but Orion's done some work on the door to get it to fit more snugly, and it's staying much warmer in there now.) Silly birds keep trying to tunnel out through their insulation; we've got wood and cardboard around much of the inside of the coop now, and sheet metal on the ceiling, but I just this morning noticed another place that they've managed to gain access to the insulation and are tunneling for freedom. Idiots.
Haven't had to plow the driveway yet this winter, though we've had snow on the ground since early October. We only have about 6-8" of it, and it's been packing down nicely.
Hmmm ... and that's about it. We're settled in for the winter, snug and happy with our chickens and dogs and pile of coal. I've been working on Kismet lately; since the next graphic novel is progressing slowly, my new plan is to clear the short comics off my desk instead. I'm hoping to begin regular, twice-weekly updates in December.
