I was just going along, working on Kismet stuff and half-watching this documentary on race relations made by a high-school student -- which, while very poignant, is nothing groundbreaking ... and then it gets to the part with the black and white dolls. And, OW. The filmmaker took these black and white baby dolls and asked black children to pick the doll they wanted to play with, the "good" doll, the "bad" doll, and ... OW. Just, OW.

InDesign rocks my socks! The one thing I wish you could do that apparently you can't is to delete individual master page items off the document pages that they've been applied to. For example ... if all your master pages have page numbers on them, and you just want one or two pages in the document without page numbers, it's easier to just cover up the page number than to create a whole new master page just for that. It would be nice if you could simply delete them.

But I've been setting up pages for the Kismet:HM graphic novel and just loving master pages. For some reason it's insanely cool to me that you can have a bunch of different master pages for different parts of the document and still have the page numbers (with different type styles on the different masters) march sequentially through them.

I can't really figure exactly how many pages I want to go with this. Right now I've got the document set up as 360 pages. There's about 340 pages of story; I'm just not sure how much extra stuff I want to shoehorn in. There are TONS of things I could put in -- ranging from the useful (notes on culture and technology) to the semi-useful (behind the scenes on certain pages with interesting stories behind them) to not useful at all, but possibly interesting (cartoons, fanart) to probably interesting only to me (exerpts from the HM novella).

I changed my "little creative Layla" icon so that it was more obvious what I'm doing in that picture. It used to be cropped in on my head ... so you couldn't see my hands. And I added the text ... because actually that WAS what Mama would say when I complained of having nothing to do, and look where it got me. (Actually what she'd always say was "Go do something constructive", but it didn't fit on an icon.)
