Sep. 17th, 2005 10:55 pmI'll be damned, it got warm again. I thought it might. God hates Fairbanks, but not THAT much. I had to scrape frost off the car yesterday morning, but aside from that, it's been in the 40s to low 50s and sunny. Yes, that *is* warm for mid-September. I remember years when it had snowed by this time, although it always melts off if it snows this early.
The leaves are mostly gone from the trees. I love the way the forests look with their leaves turned yellow, but they're equally beautiful now that the leaves form a golden carpet under the slender white trunks. And we'll be hitting the equinox anytime, so it's getting dark early enough to actually start becoming annoying. I can't take the dogs for a walk at 10 p.m. anymore.
Goodbye, free time: I have broken down and registered on Warren Ellis's new forum. This time I'm sort of getting in at the beginning, as opposed to my experience with the old WEF, which was to take one look and run away crying in terror.*
*Well, that's an exaggeration, but it *is* sort of what happened, especially after I posted a few times and made a complete fool of myself.
One of the dogs is very ill, but I've talked about it at length with friends, family and on other message boards, so I'd rather not go down that road here. But that's part of why I haven't been blogging much lately.
I'm also being sent to Kodiak in the first week of October, for work. Kodiak, the island which is known for having the biggest brown bears on or near the North American continent. Fun! Actually, I went there last year (also for work) and didn't see a single bear. I did see lots of old WWII gun emplacements (er, I don't think that's the right word; the phrase is hovering right at the tip of my brain, but I can't remember it -- encampments? embargoes? Excedrin?) on the north end of the island.
