Cleaning mode: on
May. 5th, 2005 10:34 pmFor the last few days I've been in cleaning mode. Tonight I finally hit the feces-flinging stage -- i.e. throw the crap in a box, stick it somewhere out of the way and forget about it. However, I've got all my art supplies fully sorted and even labeled for the first time in ... well, ever. I found stuff I had no idea I even owned. I can never find a compass (the kind for drawing circles, not finding your way out of a jungle) yet I possess four of them. Just the other day, I was standing in a store contemplating buying some brush markers -- well, I discovered that I have at least two dozen of them. The entire bottom of one box was full of 30 or 40 pencils that had been sharpened and used and sharpened until nothing was left but a stub about 2" long. I should've taken a picture of it ... it was a classic example of packratism gone horribly wrong.
And this is AFTER I thought I purged my belongings last summer when I moved! This is stuff that was taking up valuable space on the trailer! I hauled a boxful of pencil stubs 4,000 miles! That's depressing.
I have also got the Raven's Children minis nicely arranged and sorted, so that when I get an order I can just reach onto a shelf and pull down a pre-sorted package, rather than digging through a half-dozen boxes trying to find all the issues. My original art is organized too, and each of my different projects has its own space or at least a stack of big manilla envelopes for sorting sketches from finished art from notes etc. The only thing I wanted to do this week that I haven't done is get my business records in order and draw up a budget for this year's printing costs and convention(s). I can do that over the next few days while I work on finishing up the cover for the new RC tpb.
I cleaned the toilet too. Orion was shocked.
The cleaning jag was just what I needed to purge myself of the lingering vestiges of mental instability from the last couple of months' workaholism and get ready to pick up another project. This weekend, I will get the RC tpb cover finished. Then I'll be actually working on Kismet and Freebird again, while typesetting the RC tpb -- and it will all be at a much more leisurely pace than the last couple months' race to the finish line.
Oh yeah ... gonna do some housecleaning on the website too.
