I can't believe they've pulled it off. As strongly as I feel about getting Bush out of the White House ... the Dems have actually put forward a candidate who makes voting for Bush look almost attractive.
Case in point: a few days ago, Bush said one of the few sensible things that's ever come out of his mouth -- that the "war on terror" might not be winnable.
Kerry immediately comes back with "Of course we can win the war on terror!"
Of course he's not going to say what the hell he means by that. He insists that the Republicans are screwing up the country and he'll do things differently. By doing things exactly the same. Only better. Somehow.
If Bush said the sky was blue, Kerry'd say it's green. His whole campaign platform seems to consist solely of "I'm not Bush." The man practically redefines the words "weasel" and "pandering".
I don't hate Bush, but he scares me. What's happened to this country under Bush scares me. What might happen to this country under 4 more years of Bush scares me even worse.
By contrast, I dislike Kerry extremely, and I'm ashamed to vote for him. But I don't think the country will go to hell in a handbasket under Kerry's leadership, and the social issues that I feel strongly about (e.g. stem cell research, gay marriage) are more likely to go in the direction I'd like to see them go under a Democratic regime.
Ahhh, the joy of picking the lesser of two evils. I can't remember a presidential election that left me feeling so ... filthy.
