Vibra-mice
Feb. 3rd, 2004 11:49 amUm, that's not as dirty as it sounds.
(cross-post from my other journal)
I discovered this morning that the mice vibrate. I put my hand down in the cage so they could climb around on it. When they have their feet on you, you can tell that there's a continual "buzz" from their little muscles, like the vibration of an insect's wings. No wonder mice have to eat so much to stay alive!
They have different personalities too. There are two of them, both males: a gray one and a black one with white markings. I got the gray one because he was the most active one in the cage at the pet store -- always running around -- and the black one was the prettiest. The black one turned out to be the tamest; he happily crawled around on my hand and arm this morning, while the gray one wouldn't touch me.
When I put in fresh food this morning, the gray one picked up one of everything, took a nibble and then pu t it down, while the black one went straight to the oats and started eating. We weren't sure what they'd eat, so we've been giving them different things -- this morning: rolled oats, a broken-up piece of shredded wheat, and pieces of apple and carrot.
They seem to like rolled oats and cooked rice. Probably those are the closest to the pellet food that they ate in the pet store.
