Weather and foliage (but no dogs)
Aug. 11th, 2006 11:09 amI'm noticing that I tend to look back through my old blog entries to figure out what the weather generally does at a given time of year. Partly it's just simple curiosity (comparing this year to last year -- did the ice go out on the creek at the same time, for example) and partly it's for Freebird, to get the Alaska seasonal variation correct.
So to that end, and because I haven't been writing in the blog much lately, I think I'll start doing more "weather & foliage" posts for future reference.
The fireweed and other roadside flowers peaked about 2 weeks ago (end of July) and now are in decline, and the fireweed seed heads are just starting to come out. There's some kind of pretty yellow flower that grows in the gravel pit which has been going to seed lately -- its little white poofy things are all over the place.
The summer continues to be cool and rainy, by Fairbanks standards, but it's still been pretty nice for the fair. About 65-70 during the day, 50 or so at night. The house has been chilly enough that I've considered lighting the boiler, but it hardly seems worth it for the couple hours in the evening that I spend at home. Maybe this weekend.
There are starting to be little yellow patches in the trees. In two or three weeks it'll be full-blown fall, but for now, it's still summer.
Think I'll go to the fair tonight to take some pictures and do some sketches for Freebird. Next week's strip is fair-themed.
