Fun links of the day...
Mar. 23rd, 2006 11:56 pm... a.k.a. Layla's not working again, at the moment.
Did you ever want to buy an island? Well, now you can. Don't expect it to be cheap ... although, I *was* a bit surprised to find that you can buy a rather pathetic island for about the cost of a single-family home. Islands in the south Pacific tend to go for a bit more than that. Oddly enough, islands off the coast of Alaska are pretty damn expensive too, although they only seem to list the good ones. Most of the Alaskan islands I've seen tended to be of the "100 square feet of rock" variety ... a frugal shopper's bargain!
Here's a pretty cool time-waster -- http://www.1947project.com/ ... it's a day-by-day newsblog of Los Angeles in 1907, taken from newspapers of the time, written up in a chatty style with interesting historical footnotes. (I guess they did the year 1947 -- hence the URL -- and then moved back to 1907. Frankly, 1907's a lot more interesting to me.)
