Sooo ... there are two doors on the house. One's the one that we use as a front door, which enters through the garage. The other is a set of double doors opening off the southwest side of the house, onto what might one day be a patio but is presently just a set of wooden steps leading nowhere. We tend to forget about that door.
There was a windstorm today and it blew open at some point while we were at work. It was standing wide open when we got home and the dogs were loose in the yard.
This would have been really bad if it was still -50. It's a relatively balmy 5 or 10 degrees, so instead of being all frozen up, the house is just ... chilly. Really chilly. There was ice in the dogs' water dish.
The dogs, in spite of having had their freedom all day, were very well-behaved: you could see from the tracks in the snow that all they did was bum around just outside the door. They didn't try to run off or go investigate the neighbor's yard. They're good little doggies.
