Long month
Jun. 21st, 2004 03:58 pm*Whew* Things are finally starting to slow down, but it's been a helluva month. We've made an offer on a house, which was accepted; the inspection will be on Thursday. It's scheduled to close in mid-July. We still have nowhere to live; we're currently staying in Orion's parents' travel trailer, which we borrowed from their place in Glennallen and parked at a campground in Fairbanks.
At the end of this week (Friday) my brother is getting married in Wasilla. Next week, my best friend from college is getting married here in Fairbanks. The week after that, my cousin is getting married, again in Wasilla. What's with these people?! No, no, just kidding, I'm happy for all of them. If only it didn't have to be THIS MONTH. After that, we (hopefully) close on the house and start moving in. My tentative date to start my new job is July 19, and I'd really like to at least start getting into the house by then.
Orion is leaving to fly back to Illinois on June 29, so after that it'll be all up to me. Woo.
We also bought a new(ish) car because the truck that we used to haul our worldly possessions from Illinois (the infamous ugly Suburban) is dying. Being as cheap -- *cough* I mean thrifty as we are, we bought a little Suzuki with a manual transmission. I've never driven stick, so on top of EVERYTHING ELSE, now I'm having to re-learn how to drive.
I just want to sleep for a week.
But seriously, I'm enjoying myself. I'm insanely excited about the new house, which is really beautiful and located on 10 acres of semi-rural land. And today is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. According to the weather report, sunrise is 2:57 a.m. and sunset is 12:47 a.m. -- just under 22 hours of sunlight, and a full 24 hours of daylight. It's 85 degrees. Yesterday it was 90. Nowhere in Fairbanks is air-conditioned and the SUN NEVER GOES DOWN. (Well, for two hours. It hardly counts.) Our travel trailer is like an oven. We've been spending as little time as possible in it. Luckily we've been so busy that we're rarely "home".
EDIT: I don't believe it. It's cooler in Illinois than it is here. 75 degrees and rainy.
