Help?
I need an anecdote for Freebird, and for some reason I'm drawing a blank.
General context is that we come in on the last paragraph of someone telling one of those "you had to be there" kinds of stories, with everyone in the room having a "uh, okay" sort of look on their faces. The teller thinks it's funny; everyone else is just sort of confused. Ideally it would be related to Alaska, winter or rural living. (This is Freebird, after all.)
Anybody got some sort of short, funny-if-you-were-there stories? Or ideas? Or an out-of-context paragraph that *would* be funny without about a chapter's worth of exposition in front of it?

...He said that hornets tracked scent, so he doused himself in alcohol before throwing the nest in the river. We spent the whole night sitting up watching them try to find cracks in our windows.
(ps. On the drive back, Thadd got stung again _in the groin_ by a hornet that flew in the window of the truck. Bad hornet day.)
...So, the driver of the car blamed us for distracting him by sinking a moose in the river, but it didn't hold up in court.
...It turns out that if you have half-chewed twinky in your sinuses, you don't notice breathing the cold air as much.
...She was okay changing the tire at 40 below, but my God was her butt cold! (Seriously, she attacked me with it.)
...At that point we noticed that the pot of sauerkraut was actually melting a hole in the ice right underneath us.
I'll try to think of more.

I'll probably use one of these ... thanks!
