Return of the ... LOTR movies

It's hard to believe I've only been here two days ... we've been pretty much on the go ever since we got here. We set a land speed record driving down from Illinois -- left at 5:30 a.m. and got here at 3 p.m. even with approximately an hour's stop for breakfast.

After spending much time with relatives, we took a little time for ourselves this evening and went to see the 3rd Lord of the Rings movie (just now got back). ^_^ There were some parts that made me stop and think "So, what book did THAT come from?" and I was a little bummed that my favorite part of the books (the Shelob stuff and Sam's rescue of Frodo) was changed around a bit and cut down, with one of my favorite parts cut out completely, but ... I really liked the movie anyway. The visual imagery was just beautiful -- Minas Tirith was GORGEOUS. And of course, this was the book/movie in which Sam got to be really cool. He was my favorite character in the books.

I've liked the books from an early age, but I don't consider myself a book purist. The only changes that bother me are the ones that don't make sense. Like a couple of scenes that were totally wrong for a medieval setting ... but I have to go and double-check how it happened in the book before I go ranting about it here and making an idiot out of myself.

I'm typing this entry on Daddy's computer, so I should probably make it short and go help out with dinner.
