Empanadas!

There is a lady who goes door-to-door through various local businesses, selling fresh hot empanadas at lunchtime. One of our salespeople happened to encounter her a few times while on sales calls and asked her to come by the News-Miner, so lunch today was goooood. I've never had empanadas before, but reading the Wikipedia article (link above) it sounds like the ones she makes are the Columbian kind -- they have a chicken-and-potato filling, and a cilantro dipping sauce. The pastry is potato-y and rather sweet. Very very good.

reading this made me miss my husband (he's in iraq). whenever we would go to taco bell he would always order one of their caramel apple empanadas. but he always insisted on calling them 'empanda dandas' and he would just think it was the funniest thing ever and i'd feel embarassed. i wish i could be so embarassed right now.

It seems like it's not the big things, but always the little things, that remind us of people we love. You have my sympathy ...

Taco Bell has empanadas? Now I feel *totally* left behind the American pop culture curve.

yeah, just the caramel apple ones. i don't think they are that great, or authentic, i'm sure. not what you would expect them to be. but who knows... maybe you would love them...
