Cool comics-themed music video

Okay, yes, yes, I'm sure I'm the only person who was alive during the '80s who hasn't seen this, but we didn't have MTV, okay?

Take On Me

Sure, it's a cheesy '80s song and a *really* cheesy plot, but artistically, I really like it. As somebody who dabbles in animation-for-kicks, it's neat to see how much you can do with very simple animation, especially the animated comic book panels at the beginning. (It's obviously rotoscoping later, but it still looks neat.) And it's especially nifty to see a pop-culture depiction of a comic book that doesn't involve superheroes, Disney or creepy, stereotyped comics fans.

I always loved that video, very stylish. The early days of MTV were so much fun -- they were struggling to fill air time, so they'd run just about anything. All kinds of odd clips from bands you never heard of.

Which is really what MTV *should* be -- the video equivalent of college radio. Sad to see what it's become. I never saw it in the early days, but I do still remember when it played music, at least.

Hey, and while I'm feeling old, what happened to all the independent broadcast TV stations? When I was a kid, there were a lot of them: locally owned; primarily -- though not entirely -- UHF; shoestring budgets; played all kinds of oddball local shows, or whatever movies or syndicated programs they could get for really cheap. A local UHF station provided my first exposure to anime, in the mid-80s. I wonder if there are still stations like that around, or if their role has been usurped by cable and internet.

I don't know...They *are* immortalized in the classic movie "UHF" though. Yes, classic :)
...never saw the A-ha! video? *blinks incredulously* Wow.
