Am I working? No! Surfing the net? Yes! Actually I've got a clipboard in my lap with a Freebird page that is theoretically being worked on. I'm getting tired of drawing the damn school bus. I screwed up in the beginning and put the door on the wrong side of the bus, and while I now have the door on the correct side, Ben's little lean-to shelter, which was supposed to be in front of the door, is now on the side without the door, and that makes no sense at all. Blast ... my right-left confusion strikes again. (I have enough trouble with real-life situations, but trying to mentally rotate things in my head when I'm drawing is next to impossible. So much for artists' supposed spatial perception.)
Anyway, I've now learned why Americans call the last letter in the alphabet "zee" while the rest of the world uses "zed". The best part is that "zed" and "zee" are not the only alternatives; apparently the letter has been called all manner of things in various English dialects, including my personal favorite, "izzard". Another amusing side note is that Canadian children apparently pick up the "zee" pronounciation from Sesame Street and other American TV, reverting to "zed" as they get older.
In other websurfing, a South African researcher has invented an anti-rape device which is inserted "like a tampon" and contains little barbs which will, er, latch onto a guy and cause him to become, shall we say, extremely preoccupied, enabling the woman to get away. Apparently it can only be removed by surgery, so he has to go to a hospital to get it taken off and, obviously, it's rather incriminating.
Definitely an idea to remember for Kismet...

I wonder at the sort of mind-set a woman might have before she decided wearing one of those devices would seem prudent. Being prepared is admirable...but the price is always having "what if" in the foreground of your mind. Gah.

True, and that was more or less the first thing Orion said when I mentioned this to him. On the other hand, he points out that the deterrent effect might be considerable, if there was a possibility that a woman might be wearing one at any given time ... That is, it might be possible that just having them available would have an effect.
