No, it's like that in the U.S. too, you're right. The thing about Quark is that it never really had that much competition -- PageMaker was the closest thing, and was clearly an inferior product, much less powerful with a lot of little things that made it difficult to use for a large-scale operation. (This particular paper used PageMaker, but that's relatively rare.) InDesign is like Quark-plus ... all the things that used to make Quark better than PageMaker, without all of Quark's, er, quirks.
