In Kodiak
I'm in Kodiak ... helping to set up computers for the newspaper (by myself today; the IT guy -- who has the majority of the know-how -- is sick). Just taking a moment to write up a short journal entry in between Googling for information on extracting embedded PageMaker images in InDesign (what fun!) and trying to work out a printer setting to print tabloid-sized pages with the crop marks in the right places (double fun!).
Kodiak is generally beautiful, but I had no idea how gorgeous it would be in January. There's very little snow, so the mountains in the center of the island are white-capped while the hills are golden with patches of snow. This island always looks very much like Montana or Idaho or someplace like that, to me. I've only ever been here in fall and winter, though. I've taken a few photos (from the car), but haven't had a whole lot of opportunity for touristing. On Monday night we worked 'till 9 p.m.; last night we got out at 7, and it was too dark to take pictures by that time ...
