Updation
Commissions: coming along. I bought mailing supplies yesterday and I'll be mailing off a large batch of (hopefully) most of the pre-orders on Saturday. It would be easier to to do a large batch at once than to have to keep running to the post office every couple of days. I know I won't have the color commissions finished by then, but I oughta be pretty close on the rest of 'em.
Since I'll be in town on Saturday anyway, I'll also hit the Farmer's Market Christmas bazaar and, between that and other places around town, get most of the rest of my Christmas shopping done.
So very stressed and tired. I wish I'd gotten the book done when I originally planned to, so that I wasn't doing all this while coping with Christmas as well. At least work has settled down somewhat. It was downright crazy earlier in November (all the businesses in town scheduling their holiday advertising) but it's been quite mellow this week, for a nice change.
I *might* actually be able to get through all this without missing updates on the webcomics. I've got my Kismet pages done in advance (worst-case scenario, next Thursday's page might not be colored, but I can fix that on the weekend) and the Midnight Sun page for this week is penciled but not inked. If I could figure out how to work on them at work, I'd be doing fine, but I'm the boss ... I really can't get away with goofing off.
I have no clue what, if anything, I should do to promote the book around town. I finally talked to the comic shop manager on Tuesday, and he's very supportive of carrying the book -- apparently the first one did quite well here. I promised to make a "local artist" display, which I worked on for awhile tonight before breaking down and realizing that my somewhat ambitious plan was not going to work at all. I need *something* and I need it soon ... maybe I should just do a sign? He would also be happy to host a release party and I'm sure I can get some coverage from Fairbanks' entertainment guide seeing how it's produced by the News-Miner and I'm on good terms with the person who edits it. I just ... don't feel capable of dealing with all this AND the holidays right now. I hadn't planned on making a big deal out of this book -- I was just going to let it quietly slide by. But, Raven's Children is a series that would probably play quite well in Fairbanks. Compared to most of the other stuff I do, it's very "Alaskan". I shouldn't just kick it under the rug and I do feel as if I should do *something* to help move my books at the comic shop, if only so that they'll be willing to carry the *next* book and the one after that ....
