Signs I've been living in Alaska too long...

I scored an 84 on this Libertarian Purity Test, which puts me in this realm:

"You are a medium-core libertarian, probably self-consciously so. Your friends probably encourage you to quit talking about your views so much."

I'm right below "hard-core". Now I'm scaring myself.

EDIT:

AAAAAUUUUGGGGHHHHH!!! Howl's Moving Castle is playing in Anchorage! I thought it would never in a million years play on the big screen in Alaska. Anchorage gets all the cool and artsy films and I'm stuck in *sob* Squarebanks. Now I'm thinking about making a 7-hour drive next weekend just to see a movie (assuming it's still playing by then). That is SO damn sad.

I scored a 59...guess I'm not as libertarian as I thought. I suspect that will change after a couple of seasons in Fairbanks(Squarebanks*chuckle*).... I would make that Miyazaki road trip...or at least be tempted. Sad, yes... and once I move I will face the same dilemma myself, apparently.

Moving to Fairbanks? From where?

My family and I are coming from Orlando, Fl. in July. We have NO IDEA what we are getting into. My wife is going to grad school at UAF (because we could not find one any farther away) and I'm the support group I guess.

Holy moley! Yeah ... I don't think it's possible to get any farther away and stay, technically, in the US. Good luck with the move! Having been to the Orlando area (St Petersburg) I can definitely say that it IS different, but not quite as different Alaskans would have you believe. (We like to scare new people by talking about winter, rampaging wildlife, log cabins, etc.) My husband and I drove up here last summer from Illinois -- in our case coming back (we grew up here) but we'd been gone for awhile and it was a helluva long move.

Squarebanks is the slangy Anchorage term for Fairbanks (not, sad to say, without reason). We retaliate with "Los Anchorage".

We hope to have an interesting journey (seems inevitable) and to re-invent ourselves- or rather, reconnect with ourselves. Plenty of opportunity for that (no pesky friends or family around...)
I've enjoyed your stories, observations, pictures and occasional rants. It all makes Fairbanks -hmm...more tangible, a real place I guess. Good to
know it has a couple of artsy types about. -If you don't mind, we will email you and let you know how it goes (I'm new to the livejournal thing... not sure about contact etiquette and so forth).

There is nothing like getting 5000 miles away from your family to get in touch with the inner "you"!

I'm glad you like reading my journal. ^_^ It's very flattering to me to find out that other people are interested in my ramblings. I'd LOVE to hear about your trip -- once you're up here, we should snag your wife and my husband and get together for coffee or something, once you're settled in of course.

11? How did I score 11?

'84' LML? Wow. That's insanely high. Never would I have thought you would have scored just a high score. It must be the well water in Fox.

I only got an '11' which is crazy-low. I'm just above being a crazy Nazi-nut. Hmmm. Kind of rude for them to say that about me. I doubt I'd ever be allowed back into Ester.

Oh, "Howl's" is still playing here and will be playing this weekend down here. Glad I didn't see it last weekend if you're gonna be down here.

For some reason I thought you *were* a libertarian. Dunno why I had that impression. But there's definitely something contagious about living around paranoid nutballs, and I think the longer I live here, the worse it's gonna get. By the time I'm 40, we will have built ourselves a compound and filled it up with canned food and heavy artillery for the inevitable collapse of civilization.

As you can see, I'm not in Anchorage this weekend *snif*. We're actually taking a trip in the middle of July and I need all my weekends until then to get stuff done.
