September first

We're already into early fall here in the land of the Midnight Sun. It frosted a week ago, to my shock and dismay, and the utter ruin of my tomatoes and peppers -- woe!

I went out with my camera today in search of some fall colors. There isn't much to be seen yet.


Colors starting to show up along the driveway.


This made a striking picture.


Not strictly fall-related, but the lichen on the rock piles is always interesting to look at. (The red on the rocks is natural; I'm pretty sure it's oxidized iron.)

Thank you; it's appreciated! I guess it's just something that happens, gardening in a northern climate. (They were doing so well this year, though!)

These are so pretty! The trees are just starting to get that late August golden cast to them here in NJ. When I was little, we used to collect some of the fresh leaves that fell and press them in wax paper in heavy books. Now so many years later, I love to open those books and look at the leaves. It's amazing how well they have stayed and preserved the moments so many years later. :)

Thank you! And oh, yes, I love picking up autumn leaves! :) I used to gather a few every fall ... then I stopped doing it for a long while because I never did anything with them, so it seemed like a shame to collect them when I already had a bunch. But one of these years I'd like to come up with some kind of art project to make with them.
