25 Places That Look Not Normal, But Are Actually Real – some of these would make awesome sci-fi or fantasy settings!

Today’s xkcd is a diagram of the Saturn V rocket labeled using only the thousand most common words in the English language. As well as being amused by the descriptions (especially the part at the bottom), I don’t think I’d realized on a visceral level just how big that thing was.

Love the xkcd. Wish we had more upgoers going to space today.

Iceland gets 4 entries, but could have walked away with more--amazing concentration of alien awesome in that country. Waterfalls, geysers, glaciers, volcanos, trolls (real ones, not internet poseurs!)

Apparently there is talk right now that both NASA and the Chinese space program may be planning a moon mission. (Er, probably not together.) I guess we'll see how it works out, but there is hope!

And Iceland ... yeah ... I would love to visit Iceland someday! I suppose it probably sounds like a strange vacation spot to many people, but I think the pictures I've seen are absolutely gorgeous, and I'd love to see it in person someday.

Keep an eye out on Icelandair--they have offseason specials. Last year a friend and I caught one that included tour & hotel, excellent deal. The hot pools are *magick*.
