Checking in with last year's New Years goals
For the last couple of years I've done a "where am I and where am I going" post at the end of the year ... and I think it's that time of year again! Past posts can be seen by checking the year-end roundup tag on my LJ.
Last year's goals:
In 2008, I will finish 12 stories (at least) of 5,000 words (at least). And one of these will be a novel.
Ahahahahaha... no. 2008 was supposed to be the Year of the Rough Draft -- the idea was to finish a pile of rough drafts, and to spend the next year polishing them and trying to sell them. Although I didn't achieve the 12-story goal, though, I did finish a novel (working title: Sea Change; young adult; 50,000 words) and a 25,000 word novella which is now in the rewrite stage. So I don't feel too badly about this one (though I did end up with a ton of half-written short stories).
Post regular updates at my kinda-new fiction blog,
icefallstudio.
Nope. Not at all.
Post semi-regular updates at my artblog,

Nope again. I did update Kismet Scrapbook for a while, though, which is kind of close.
I will submit something to a magazine market by year end.
No, but I've collected a list of promising-looking fiction markets.
I will finish the script for the new Kismet GN (Sun-Cutter) and start working on the pages (OR) I will resume work on Midnight Sun (OR) I will finish a couple of the short Kismet comics. In any case, I will have a webcomic updating by year end.
Check! The Kismet short comics are updating again, and I got Freebird (not even mentioned in my year-end goals) to a stopping place. "Sun-Cutter" has a bunch of pages penciled, and the plot generally blocked out.
Each day, I will write at least 1000 words of fiction, or do an equivalent amount of art.
No, but I'm not doing awful at it. I had a major productivity downswing last summer for some reason, but towards the end of summer I started charting my progress on the calendar, and I'm more or less achieving that goal (well, prior to December, where I was traveling and totally went off the rails as far as accomplishing anything creative).
What I actually did accomplish in 2008:
- Finished a novel
- Finished a novella
- Finished Freebird (sorta ... but it's in a good stopping place for now)
- Worked on "Sun-Cutter"
- Started a bunch of short stories and novels
Back soon with this year's goals.
