Freebird! Soon! Well, not *that* soon, I guess.

I'm uploading Freebird comics today! \o/ The strip will begin updating twice weekly (Sundays and Thursdays) on Nov. 16 and will run through Christmas, wrapping up the major storylines and bringing it to a tidy stopping place rather than the mid-story-arc cliffhanger where I broke off when "square" stopped publishing and I lost my dead-tree venue for it.

The strips are all drawn and scanned; I just have to finish toning them. (The only reason why I'm not starting 'til November is so that it will end on Christmas; the last strip takes place on Christmas, in their universe, so it's nicely synchronous to have it fall on Christmas in our 'verse too.) And then I'll be able to check a major item off my creative to-do list. I hate wandering away and leaving a creative project unfinished -- I may waffle between them frequently, but it's nice to leave each one in a good stopping place before I waffle off to something else.

It feels so good to be making comics again! *eyes Kismet to-do pile*

[sitting up straight and perking my ears]

...did you say, "Kismet"?

Yes! ... er, eventually.

I've actually got about 25 pages or so of the next book penciled. I wanted to try to get far enough ahead that I could set a frequent update schedule (like, 3-5 pages a week), and I had some vague hopes of penciling the entire thing before I started inking, but, er, I spun out. So, once I get Freebird and some shorter fiction projects off my plate, I'm going to start penciling and inking. I was hoping for an early 2009 debut, but I'm now thinking more mid-2009, depending on how many pages I get done before I start updating them.

But it IS coming back! :D

Rawks!

congrats. Are politics driving you to create?

Not really -- kinda the opposite, actually: I'm deliberately trying to keep politics out of Freebird right now. I seriously thought about doing some strips dealing with the election (it's not like I haven't got opinions on it, and so do my characters), but then decided not to, because in two weeks (YAY) it'll be over and we'll all be moving on into the Obama administration *cough*.

I was thinking running from anything political, hiding in art where the current politicians may not roam. Maybe I've been in too many battleground states recently, but the ads are quite horrendous (PA for business. Now NC is in play, really?) I better get my local candidate research done so I can vote early next week. I think election day is going to be a zoo.

Hee! I really enjoyed rereading Freebird in reverse instead of working on the insanely short-notice work I should be doing.

My favorite remains the state fair 'eating the bunnies' strip (http://www.webcomicsnation.com/laylalawlor/freebird/series.php?view=single&ID=67009).

Awww! Thank you! :D

I'll be happy to contribute to your delinquency any time.
