... and this is why I never seem to finish anything.

I've written 7,000 words today (!!!) -- but not in the novel I was supposed to be working on. No, this is an entirely different novel, which I suppose is going to need a plot sooner or later. Also, only one character has a name yet. At one point I tried randomly generating names using dice to pick out letters. That went about as well as could be expected.

Most of my novel efforts to date have been YA, and I think one reason this one is going so quickly (so far) is because, apparently, I have this whole bottled-up part of me that wants to swear and write about lowlife characters doing lowlife things. *g* I think these people would feel right at home in Kismet.

It sounds SF-y, but also cute (I'm weird, I know). Kind of spiky and kind of snappy and also easy to make short forms of.

That ... actually makes me insanely happy and really makes it feel like I've chosen the right name, because he's spiky and snappy and cute, and the whole thing is kind of SF-y. *g* (I suppose "Rodney crossed with Giles" is a fairly accurate way of describing how I'm writing the character at the moment.)

I have certain ways that I tend to name my characters, too -- L's show up a lot, and so do S's and J's and F's. I deliberately try to mix up the starting letters of the names to make it easier for readers to tell them apart, because if I'm not careful I can easily end up with, say, a whole roomful of people whose names all begin with F.
