Spring on the Lawlor homestead

The footbridge across our creek melted out of the ice today. Naturally I had to grab my camera and document this momentous occasion.

Ever since the creek started melting, a few weeks ago, it's been impossible to cross. (Well, not really impossible, but with rapidly moving water over ice of indeterminate depth, probably unwise.) I was delighted to get a chance to get reacquainted with the temporarily-inaccessible part of our property.

This morning, you couldn't even see the bridge. Sadly, I don't have a picture of this. There was just a little waterfall where the bridge ought to be.

By afternoon, when we got home from a half-day of work and lunch with my family, it looked like this:

Random picture of the dogs being cute, playing in the edge of the water.

A mere couple of hours later, it looked like this:

Izzy seems none too pleased about crossing the rushing torrent. Of course, being left behind is worse. The pack is crossing the creek! Can't be left behind to be eaten by wolves!

Looking back towards the bridge (house at right). This is at about 7 p.m. -- it's already late enough in the year that the sun is still pretty high in the evening.

Izzy: "Oh, like hell I'm climbing up there."

Lucky investigates a ravine.

The house and yard from the top of the hill. (Look! Buds! Green!)

Rotating to the east, this is the gravel pit as viewed from the top of the hill, where I habitually walk the dogs. Our only two close neighbors are on the far side of the gravel pit.

And then I turned around and took a picture looking back across the part of our property at the top of the hill. It's a swamp, really -- but it's our swamp.

That looks beautiful. Seriously. Every time you post pictures, I find myself sidling up to Randy and asking him just how an AlCan Highway trip would work again ... ?

Thank you very much! And this isn't even an especially scenic time of year. Actually, let's face it -- this is about the least picturesque time of year that we have. Everything is brown and gray. I'm ready for some flowers, damn it.

Driving up the AlCan is definitely an experience to remember! I do hope you talk him into it one of these days. :D

ME talk HIM into it?!

Remember, he's the rally driver. He's dying to traverse the entire highway. At full speed.

So far, we've negotiated to "cruise one way, drive the other".

*laughs* For some reason I'd had in my head that *you* wanted to do it and *he* didn't.

Hopefully you'll both survive the experience. :D It really is a fun drive ... at whatever speed!
