I found the moose...

It's gotten dark, and I was sitting upstairs writing (or, more accurately, procrastinating) at my computer when Izzy started making her muffled little "I know I'm not supposed to bark in the house, BUT..." noise downstairs. I came down and found a moose browsing in the pool of light under the living room window. I leaned on the windowsill to look at it. It raised its head with its ears all forward and curious to look back at me. We were on eye level with each other, with about four feet and a window between us. I stared into the moose; the moose stared into me. Then Izzy got a little louder and it turned and trotted off.

That was COOL.

Jealous, jealous, jealous, and also, jealous! (I've only seen a moose once, in Sweden, oddly enough, despite four years of college in Maine!)

I gotta say, reading your posts makes me so want to move to Alaska. Like, now. Up there with all the furry aminals!

When we were in Maine this fall, we found all the MOOSE CROSSING! signs kind of hilarious -- there were just so many of them, every half-mile it felt like, many of them with flashing lights and a vaguely panicky tone. You halfway expected kamikaze moose to jump out of the bushes at the car...
