Back from St. John's

Technically I've been back for a few days, but I'm just now getting some pictures up.

There's honestly not a whole lot to report about our trip because in the grand scheme of things, we didn't *do* a whole lot. We hiked, saw lighthouses and beaches and fog and whales, and just generally relaxed and enjoyed ourselves like the overall sticks-in-the-mud that we are. It was a fun, relaxing trip and I really enjoyed it. And now, pictures!

The St. John's harbor from Signal Hill at the harbor mouth.

I swear, Newfoundland has the most awesome place names. Town names (e.g. Heart's Content, Trepassey, Dildo), street names (e.g. Hill o'Chips, Hipswitch) ... it's just a linguistic delight.

From across the bay, houses clinging to the rocks.

Lighthouse and old WWII bunkers out on the point.

St. John's harbor lights beginning to come out from across the bay.

Thunderheads gathering in the sunset.

Colorful, densely packed houses downtown.

Another view of the town from above. This and the last couple of pictures were taken from a museum (The Rooms) located on a hill in town, with an outdoor balcony that offers breathtaking views.

Breakers on a beach north of St. John's.

Janer sent me your pictures, and I am so envious ... we're hoping to get back there again next summer.

Not sure whether this link will work, but --

Thanks for sharing your pictures!

I went and looked at the linked pictures -- very cool! I wish we'd been able to get out and see a bit more of the island.
