I asked partly because i am shooting film again and looking for inexpensive places to get it developed. I agree with you about the CDs -- i think they also don't apply the "adjust to make skin tones look good" processing algorithm to the CDs. My camera store will send off the B&W and just get it developed, and i'll scan in the photos that are any good. (I have a new long lens and am not the most steady, even with the tripod.) I realized that the places that used to accept film by mail have stopped in the past few years.
My spouse is now sitting by me, wistfully murmuring, "I love frost feathers!"
And, wow, shooting with the film camera after a few years of just shooting the digital -- i forgot what control was like!
