Wished I'd had my camera this morning when I was walking the dogs. We were beset by a flock of alarmingly friendly ravens. They circled us, swooping within a few feet, and perched in the trees overhead. Possibly they were hoping we'd drop dead. When no carrion was forthcoming, they flew away in search of feebler prey.
After getting used to crows in the Midwest, ravens seem alarmingly huge to me now. I saw one of them start to land in a small spruce tree; when the tree immediately dipped under its weight, it had to take off in search of a bigger tree.
COMPLETELY UNRELATED EDIT: I found an astoundingly gorgeous webcomic this week: Alpha Shade. It has some of the most beautiful art I've ever seen in a webcomic, and the really bizarre thing is that, according to the tutorial section of their website, it's DRAWN IN FLASH. I never knew anybody used Flash as an art tool, especially for such wonderful results. As far as story goes, it's really just starting out -- I thought at the beginning that it was some sort of weird revisionist World War II (like the horrendous "Families of Altered Wars") but it's not ... it takes place in a fascinatingly complex alternate reality where cats are gods and biplanes do battle with soldiers riding giant bird-lizards. My only complaint so far is that the characters are pretty flat (though I like the birdrider-lady) but I'm willing to give it some time, since it's just getting up to speed. I would love to see this one in a full-color TPB.
