I was going to post a long ramble on Mallard Fillmore; for some reason I was thinking about it on the drive home from work and mentally composing a rant. But now I don't really feel like writing it, except to say that I sometimes think Mallard Fillmore is actually written by a liberal doing a cruel parody of the right wing. After all, the protagonist is basically a left-wing caricature of a conservative. You remember those old Bugs Bunny cartoons when Daffy Duck would get hit so hard that his beak would get knocked off his face? That's basically what I usually end up wanting to do to Mallard's smug, self-righteous smirk.
Mmmm. Weekend. Tomorrow Paula comes and gets her dogs, THANK GOD. They're actually pretty sweet little girls, but with FOUR dogs to drive me crazy (two of them very energetic and unresponsive to commands) I'm getting wound up tighter and tighter, and snapping at them for little things. Also, probably because of jealousy of the other dogs combined with over-stimulation, my dogs are starting to act out, too. I think tomorrow might be a really good day to go into town, see The Incredibles and do some Christmas shopping. Then come home in the evening and hand Paula's dogs back to her. Yeah ... dog-free weekend sounds really good right now.
I think I may have found the best anti-Mary Sue fanfic parody ever. Most Mary Sue parodies are as bad as the tripe they're trying to skewer, but this one is genuinely good. Harry Potter series. Probably only funny and/or interesting if you read a lot of fanfic and are familiar with the Potter universe -- but it really nails most of the standard Mary Sue cliches, as well as being well-written (aside from a few grammar problems, but I'm picky), internally consistent, in character (except where they're clearly not supposed to be), and funny, with a clever twist at the end. (Warning: contains graphic sex scene involving Snape.)
