It's fun worldbuilding from that perspective, too! :D Among other things ... if Rodney is from the dolphin people and I stick with my "dolphin people are basically super-intelligent dolphins" idea - he has no HANDS. How would he even cope??? Ohhh, I could totally give the dolphins advanced math skills (... like certain whales that shall remain nameless), which even makes sense, because the whole idea with naye's and my whales was that they were genius mathematicians because they basically just spent all their time studying fluid dynamics and related things down in their underwater world.
