I am so ready for spring now
It's that time of year when the days are getting warmer and longer, but not quite warmer and longer enough. Still snow everywhere, mid-20s during the day dropping to single digits at night.
I wanted to take some pictures and document breakup this year, just for the hell of it, but I seem to have lost my digital camera ... which is, incidentally, driving me crazy. Am I going senile in my old age? While I am the first to admit that I'm not the tidiest person ever, I'm usually pretty good at keeping track of important things like that. (Hey, I moved across the country twice without losing my Wacom tablet's stylus! I'm still ridiculously impressed by this.) I don't remember taking it anywhere; it's just nowhere to be found. If I really have lost it permanently, it's not that much of a loss, because I bought it in '03 or '04, so it's probably time to treat myself to a new one anyhow. But it's annoying not having it when I want it, and I would really like to know what the heck I did with it ...
In chicken-related news, the rooster has gone paraplegic. I have no idea why; he's perky and his appetite is just fine, but he can't stand up. I was afraid that he'd freeze to death if I left him in the chicken coop, so he's been living in a box in the garage for the last week or so. Searching online is not helping much; there are about a million things that can cause a chicken to be unable to stand up, but nothing that seems to fit his lack of other symptoms. The best I can figure is that maybe he had a stroke. (Do chickens have strokes?) In any case, he doesn't appear to be getting better, so now I get to figure out how much use I'm getting from an immobile chicken. OH GOOD.
The three remaining hens are doing fine, though. They're laying again. I've been turning on their heat lamp at night but just giving them a light bulb during the day, and I can probably do away with both pretty soon.
