Didn't I move north to avoid this?

Why yes, I am a fragile Arctic flower. *wilts* But seriously, it's hot! 81 degrees and supposed to climb to 85 today ... although I noticed that the record for this day is 92, so at least we're not there yet.

And of course there is hardly air conditioning anywhere in this town.

Yesterday I spent much of the day cleaning, and by afternoon I was a dripping puddle of sweat. To cool off, I took the dogs wading in the creek -- from 80 degree air to 35 degree ice water! There's still a lot of ice upstream in the ravines, although this weather should get rid of a lot of it. We've been having heat interspersed with really spectacular thunderstorms. There was one on Sunday where the rain was coming down so hard that I didn't hear the water truck pull into the yard -- which is really saying something, because it's HUGE and rumbles and shakes the ground ... but I didn't know it was there until they started filling our tank and the pump kicked on right outside the kitchen wall where I was doing dishes. I thought for a minute that something had gone horribly wrong with some mechanical system in the kitchen, 'til I saw the truck...

Three days until I leave for St. John's (where, I notice, it's 48 degrees and raining -- I'd actually rather have that weather than what we've got!). I'm looking forward to seeing it, but I'll also be really glad to get back and settle in for the rest of the summer. June has been a hectic month with a lot of traveling and personal stress, and I just want to huddle for a while and play with my flowers and draw.
