Cool thing: There are fish in our creek! Big ones!

Not so cool thing: They're dead. And I discovered this because ever since the spring floodwaters receded, Lucky has been abnormally interested in splashing around in the mud at the edge of the creek. Yesterday I finally, belatedly realized why. It's because there are DEAD FISH in the mud and he's EATING them. They're about a foot long and ... *barf* ... sort of curled up and freeze dried. I don't think the winter was kind to them.

I ... I can't really express the EWWWWWW of having Lucky come prancing up out of the mud, looking very self-satisfied, with 12" of FREEZE-DRIED FISH IN HIS MOUTH and suddenly realizing that the odd fishy smell that had been hanging around his fur was not, in fact, just unwashed dog grease.

I HAD BEEN SNUGGLING WITH THAT DOG.

You know, non-pet owners never have to deal with this sort of thing.
