I'm thinking about renaming...

Now that I have a "studio" name that I like, and still like after using it for a little while -- Icefall Press -- I'm considering doing some name-swapping on my LJs.

This one would be renamed to laylalawlor, since it's my personal journal and it's not as if anyone doesn't know who I am.

The one which is currently laylalawlor -- the community -- would be renamed to icefallpress. In my mind, this would better reflect the way I use it: it's not my personal journal, but my journal for writing and art-related stuff. And I would like to work on making it a more active writing/creative journal; I think right now people are hampered by the fact that it *looks* like a private journal due to the name. (Also, posting in a journal called "laylalawlor" as a user named "glacierdust" just feels downright weird to me. It would be SO MUCH LESS WEIRD the other way around.)

Bad idea? Good idea? Thoughts?

So wait, you can actually re-name LJ's now? I thought they couldn't do that.
I dunno, I like icefall for the community, but I think glacierdust brings something more etheral and enjoyable than just someone's name (not simply your name, anyone's name. It's why I call mine NeoSquirrel, because people tend to get something from it one way or another, and it sticks with 'em, not to mention keeps some anonymity for me).

So in short, I like the other one's name change possibility, but not this one

Yes, you can rename them, but it costs money to do it -- probably to keep people from changing their LJ names all the time!

I'm partial to using laylalawlor for my personal LJ because I've *always* used my real name online, ever since I first started going on message boards and mailing lists in '95. It's my website URL, my AIM screen name and my name in most other places where I'm a regular. I do have pseudonyms that I use for certain specific purposes (e.g. writing and posting fanfic, because I don't want it to come up under my name in a Google search) but in general, "me" online is Layla Lawlor just as it is in real life.

And I want myself to be easy to find; if people who are casually acquainted with me through my books are looking for me, I want them to be able to type "laylalawlor" into Livejournal and get *something*.

But I do like the glacierdust LJ name. And I've been glacierdust on LJ for quite a while ... so I'll think about that one some more.

I'm pretty sure about the icefallpress name change, though. My only worry is that 6 months from now, I won't like the name anymore.

I think renaming the 'laylalawlor' community makes sense--it's always seemed a little awkward to me that your personal journal is under a pseudonym but your real name's on your corporate journal. I'll let you decide what to do with Glacierdust...it's a good nickname, but you're right that you should have *something* on LJ with your proper name. (Assuming you want people to find you, of course.)

Yes, it feels weird to me for that exact reason, and I'll probably change the "work" LJ later this week. It SHOULD redirect people, but just in case it doesn't I'll post a notice here....

I'm still trying to figure out how to handle Glacierdust. I'll still *have* the laylalawlor account name, so I can always switch it at a later date if I want to.

I hear you about the Icefall thing. Personally, I like it. But then again, like you i'm a very nature-driven person.
I got over my idea that I wanted my name to be Alvin about two months in. Then again, I was six, so my parents induldged me. ^^
