Google Earth...

... has eaten my brain. This is SO COOL. I finally broke down and downloaded the Mac OS version, and this is most definitely NOT how I was planning on spending my day, but ... SO COOL! Right now I'm in Kyrgyzstan. I just can't get over the awesomeness of being able to zoom in on these places that I've only read about. I've always loved maps, and this is like maps only about 50x cooler.

Let's see what Tibet looks like!

Last night my brother was visiting, and we had him point to where he lives outside of Beijing and where he works downtown. He thought it was pretty darn cool, too. I planned our last trip using it. It's really quite wonderful!

It's awesome! I'm caught between looking up places I've actually been, and zooming in on places that I will never actually go, like Afghanistan. I spent WAY too much time today looking up random places in Asia.

I dunno, am I missing something? I downloaded it a bit ago, and found it nothing more than a glorified maps.google.com that just goes up and down the earth. I want it to look like the maps I saw on ABC when we were invading Iraq-- THOSE were awesome Google Earth maps....

P.S. I am TOTALLY creating a character out of "War-Moose".

I suppose it depends on what you're looking for. I'm a giant map geek, so to me it's like the coolest map EVER.

It's kinda like ... if you don't geek out over archaeology, then you're never going to understand why people like me can freak out over the massive coolness of a handful of bone shards and a fragment of clay.
